In the evolving political terrain of Ondo State, the air is once again thick with voices—some cheering, many critical, and others purely distracting. But amid this noise, one thing must remain clear: Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa must not lose focus.
Since stepping in to lead the Sunshine State after the demise of the late Akeredolu, Governor Aiyedatiwa has displayed uncommon calm, maturity, and a sense of direction, initiating people-centred projects, fostering stability, and reassuring citizens that governance has not been abandoned.
These achievements, though recent, reflect a commitment to purposeful leadership. Yet, as the state begins to regain balance, some forces—both within and outside—seem determined to pull him off course. One of the most worrisome distractions comes from Mrs Betty Akeredolu, the wife of the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. Her recent activities, utterances, and subtle jabs at the current administration have raised eyebrows. While she remains a respected figure, it must be said plainly: the time for political influence through emotional blackmail or legacy entitlement is over. Governance is now in the capable hands of Governor Aiyedatiwa, and the people of Ondo State deserve peace, progress, and unity—not recycled conflicts.
Likewise, elements of the opposition, sensing the growing popularity of the Governor, have launched deliberate campaigns of misinformation, sponsored social media attacks, and whispers of division. Their aim is clear: to destabilise this administration ahead of the forthcoming 2027 elections. But the people are watching. They know what chaos looks like, and they are choosing stability this time.
What the Governor must do now is double down on governance. Stay above the noise.
Let your work speak louder than your words. Do not be tempted to fight unnecessary political battles that only waste time and resources. Instead:
Continue investing in infrastructure and rural development.
Prioritise youth employment and skill-building.
Deepen health and education reforms.
Sustain transparency and accountability in government.
Engage grassroots leaders and traditional rulers meaningfully.
Ondo State has suffered enough from political distractions in the past. This is a new chapter, and Governor Aiyedatiwa has the rare opportunity to write it with integrity, impact, and history on his side.
To the Governor: Remain focused. Resist provocation. Let your legacy be defined by development, not distraction. The people are with you—and history will judge you fairly if you stay the course.
Long live Ondo State. Long live good governance.
