Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has called for the collaboration of Ondo State residents, security agencies, and relevant ministries as the construction and channelisation of a potable water supply project begins.

The governor made this appeal during a stakeholder meeting on Tuesday at the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) event hall in Akure, where he addressed the urban water reform and Akure water supply and sanitation project.

Aiyedatiwa emphasised that in addition to providing clean water, the project aims to create job opportunities for skilled workers and enhance the state's appearance.

The governor said, "This project is not just about providing clean water but also about transforming our state. We need the support of every resident and stakeholder to make this initiative successful. It's a comprehensive effort that aims to improve hygiene and create job opportunities."

"We are committed to not only delivering safe and clean water but also enhancing the overall environment of our communities. By installing modern toilet facilities in strategic locations, we aim to promote better hygiene and make our state more beautiful," he added.

Aiyedatiwa concluded by emphasising that the project's success hinges on the collective efforts of all stakeholders and citizens. He noted, "This project is a testament to what we can achieve when we unite and work together for the betterment of our state."

Earlier in his welcome address, Sunday Akinwalire, Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation, and Hygiene, expressed his appreciation for the governor's commitment.

He said, "For over thirty years, the issue of inadequate potable water has plagued our communities. Today, with the governor's approval, we are finally addressing this problem head-on. This project will significantly improve the quality of life for our people."

Akinwalire elaborated on the scope of the project, noting, "Our goal is to provide access to clean water for 500,000 households and approximately 2 million individuals. This is a monumental task, but it is one we are ready to undertake."

Technical consultant, Kehinde Adebayo, outlined the project's technical aspects: "We will be repairing and revitalising all previously abandoned mechanical equipment, treatment plants, storage facilities, and pipelines. This comprehensive approach will ensure that we have a reliable and efficient water supply system."

Sanitation consultant, Alaanuloluwa Obaisi, provided details on the project's phases, stating, "The first phase will cover all local governments and communities in the central senatorial district, including Akure South, Akure North, Ifedore, Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo, and Ondo West. We are committed to ensuring that every community benefits from this initiative."

Additionally, Solomon Adelegan, Chairman of the Grievance and Dispute Committee, assured the public, saying, "We have reached out to all affected individuals and structures in the project areas. We are working closely with them to ensure a smooth commencement and minimise any disruptions."

The event was attended by notable figures, including Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Aladetiyinbo, various traditional rulers, political appointees, and other stakeholders involved in the water project.
