Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa says the sacrifices of heroes who challenged the then military dictators have not been in vain.
Governor Aiyedatiwa stated this during the 2024 June 12 democracy day celebration in Akure the Ondo state capital.
Governor Aiyedatiwa said democracy remained alive with an assurance that his administration would ensure wealth creation, security and prosperity to ensure end to poverty in the state.
He also charged the people to conduct themselves well as the state approaches the governorship election slated for 16th November 2024.
The guest speaker and the national secretary of the All progressives congress APC Senator Ajibola Bashiru in a lecture said democracy was still the best for the country despite its numerous challenges.
Mr Bashiru however mentioned that corruption among others had negatively affected the smooth progress of the nation from independence till date.
The chairman of the occasion , Prof Olu Aderonmu said the nation expected much from President Bola Tinubu to rejuvenate the economy.
The theme for this year's June 12 democracy day celebration is the state of democracy in Nigeria , issues, challenges and the way forward.
Dignitaries who graced the occasion included deputy governor Dr Olayide Adelami, speaker Ondo state house of assembly Mr Olamide Oladiji,Ondo APC chairman Mr Ade Adetimehin, Deji of Akure Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo, other royal fathers ,political and religious leaders ,security chiefs among others.
