Residents of Akure, the Ondo state capital were on Wednesday stranded following the fuel scarcity caused by imported contaminated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol.
Our correspondent who went round the state capital observed that civil servants, students, and those who wanted to board the public transport to their various offices and schools were stranded as few taxis were operating.
Other commercial vehicles queued at some filling stations that opened to sell the commodity.
At the popular Oba Adesida road, vehicles were seen in the filling which some said have been in the filling stations as early as 5 o'clock in the morning.
Many major bus stops were filled with passengers begging few private vehicles plying major roads for free rides.
Those who spoke with our correspondent lamented the suffering being added to the economic challenges they are currently facing—-.
They called on the federal government to address what they described as unfortunate development before it got out of hands.
Hamza Shaibu, a motorist said the country ought to have far gone beyond this level it found itself.
Also, Opeyemi Dada, said she could not comprehend why the country is in this situation despite the assurance from the federal government that the situation would be subsided.
