Ondo Govt. lauds NSCDC on Civil Defence Day

The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, has commended the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for collaborating with other security agencies towards the protection of lives and properties in the state.
The Governor stated this, at the thanksgiving service in commemoration of World Civil Defence Day, held at the Chapel of Grace, Government House Grounds in Akure.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, he said NSCDC has been so wonderful since the State Commandant came on board.
"He promised to do his best and he is indeed doing it.
"Today, Ondo State is adjudged as one of the most secured states in Nigeria due to the deliberate efforts of all the security agencies and the robust security architecture put in place by the state government," he said.
The NSCDC State Commandant, Dr. Hammed Abodunrin, while explaining the importance of the World Civil Defence Day, appreciated the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar, for restructuring and repositioning the Corps into an enviable and internationally recognized organization.
'We were diligent when we were volunteers and we are going to do our best to ensure that we do things thoroughly.
"We have issues no doubt; the issue of insecurity is global. We need dedication to surmount our present challenges' the commandant said.
Speaking further, Abodunrin said, 'We need to raise conscious population and upscale the skills of the people on security.
"To this end, we shall be having a workshop today to raise and train 500 volunteers from all works of life on how to respond to and manage disasters.
In his sermon titled, "Do Good", Rt. Rev Bola Osunjuyigbe said, "the role of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps is enshrined in the Bible as a watchman. NSCDC is a watchman who are to protect lives and properties.
"You as an organization has worked tirelessly in fulfilling your mandate in the Act that established you.
"Kindly look inward to fish out the bad eggs so that you can achieve the desired goal," he admonished.
Other dignitaries in attendance were the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development; Dr. Julianah Oshadahun, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affiars; Otunba Adefarati Adegboyega, Methodist Bishop of Owo; Rt. Rev. Bola Osunjuyigbe and other political appointees.
