Members of the Nigerian Medical Association in Ondo State have distributed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to various hospitals in the state.

This is to complement government efforts and reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

Some of the equipment distributed were hundreds of face masks, respirators and surgical masks.

Hand sanitizers and face shields were also distributed to the hospitals.

Recalled that NMA had earlier donated some PPEs at the initial stage of Coronavirus pandemic.

Some of the organisations that benefited from the initial gesture were : Correctional Service Centres, NUJ, broadcasting stations and private hospitals within the state.

Giving explanation behind this gesture, the Chairman of the Association, Dr. Wale Oke said the association embarked on the mission for the second time due to a surge in the cases of COVID-19 in the state.

He lamented non-compliance of citizens of the state to the precautions against the deadly disease.

He therefore enjoined all citizens of the state to adhere strictly to the laid down rules by the government and the experts.

He equally called on the government to enforce proper use of face mask in the public, create more isolation centres within hospitals.

Mr. Oke also urged Governor Akeredolu to declare a two wee total lock down especially in areas of the state mostly affected by the pandemic.

He however, berated government for not fulfilling its promise to the healthworkers who are working tirelessly to bring the pandemic under control.

This, he said, could dampen their morale and commitment.

He urged government as a matter of urgency to resolve all issues that led to industrial actions embarked upon by two of the affiliates of the Association in the interest of health care in Ondo state
