2020: I remain in APC, I’m too old to be jumping parties – Abena

Following the failure of his preferred aspirant to clinch the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, former Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, has insisted he has no intention of leaving the party.

Abena, as he's fondly called, had fallen out with Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu before quitting his cabinet recently to adopt another governorship aspirant for the APC primary election held last Monday in Akure.

However, after Akeredolu won the primary election, there have been speculations that the former SSG might reconsider his membership of the ruling party ahead of the October 10, 2020 governorship election in the State.

Speaking in a chat with TRACE at the weekend, Abena said he has resolved to stay in the APC because he's too old to continue to jump from party to party.

He said: "I have moved from parties a lot of time. I left the PDP to join Labour Party, from there to ACN/APC. At 65, I'm too old to be jumping around. I can't run to another party again. APC remains my party, I'm not leaving."

Asked if he would be supporting Governor Akeredolu in the coming governorship election, the former two-time member of the House of Representatives said he was yet to make a decision on that even though some of the leaders of the party have been reaching out to him.

"All I want to do now is to take a deserved rest and reflect. I don't want to talk about election for now. When I'm ready to speak on the coming governorship election, I will let you know", he said.
