Women leaders across different organizations and networks today renewed their agitation for a female Deputy Governor saying it was high time Ondo State have a woman at the helm of affairs.
Addressing the gathering at Diamond Hotel, Akure, the state president of National Council of Women Societies( NCWS), Ondo State, Mrs. Jumoke Aborode said the meeting became necessary as part of efforts to get government's attention towards addressing the trend.
According to her, it is unfortunate that throughout South West Nigeria, Ondo State remained the only state yet to produce a female as a Deputy Governor.
She said the outcome of the meeting will go a long way in preparing women for the coming elections as plans are in top gear to continue to sensitize women across the senatorial zones.y
In her remarks, the CEO, Girls-2-Women Initiative, Mrs. Olamide Falana said the agitation has been on for a very long time.
Mrs. Falana who said it would easier if women leaders can go through the leadership of different political parties and register their demands, further urged women with political ambitions to join relevant political groups.
In her own reactions, the Chairperson, Ondo State Women- Led NGOs, Mrs. Folake Esan said women represent over 50% of the total population and as such their voices must be heard.
The meeting also afforded other major stakeholders from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) duly represented by Mrs. Alo Dolapo from the Gender Desk and others which included both the past and present Chairperson of the Federation of Women Lawyers in Ondo State among others to bear their minds.
