Employees of Ondo state Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) are heaving a sigh of relief following the state government's directive through the Board Chairman, Mr. Tolu Adegbie to enlist all staff of ODIRS (Including those on Secondment) for a LIFE ASSURANCE SCHEME.

The Chairman who was pleased to announce to the staff of their enlistment for a LIFE ASSURANCE SCHEME, said though they do not pray nor wish for accidental death at this time but in the event of such unfortunate incident, such staff is covered. His/her family (next of kin) is entitled to receive 300% of the deceased annual Net salary in full and paid at once.
It will be recalled that ODIRS has played a major role in the state for the growth and the management of the state revenue.

The Board under the administration of Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) significantly increased revenue generated by the state from N8.68 billion in 2016 to N10.93 billion in 2017 and N24.79 billion in 2018 and N2.26 billion in 2019 to become ninth-highest revenue generating state of the federation, according to National Bureau of Statistics.

Despite the debt incurred by the previous administration, Governor Akeredolu led government was able to clear all debt and as well offset salaries owed the workers by the previous government without it affecting the revenue generated by the state.

Further data analysis by the nation's statistics bureau shows that as a result of the increase in the state revenue, that Ondo state added 122,708 fresh job within the one-year period under review, boosting the number of employed persons, which comprises those engaged in full-time jobs and the underemployed, in the state from 2.02 million in Q3 2017 to 2.14 million and continued in the subsequent years.
All these were achieved because we have an integrity and a transparent Governor who came onboard, blocked all loopholes through which money were stolen from the government and introduced an ICT base mode for payment of tax and other levies. Which means that every money collected from the public is accounted for and channeled into proper usage.

Also, since the outbreak of COVID-19, the state like the rest of the world has been battling with the pandemic and is expected to suffer a significant revenue shortfall.
The staff of Ondo State Board of Internal Revenue contributed One million three hundred and sixty-four thousand naira (1,364,000.00) to the Ondo State COVID-19 response committee as well as the introduction of Tax relief and Incentives for Taxpayers and business to cushion the impact of COVID-19 crisis in the state.
