Palliative Fraud: OSOPADEC Chair Clears Air Over N30m Allegation

The Chairman of Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Gbenga Edema who was alleged to have spent N3.5million out of the N30 million given to him for palliative, has debunked the rumour.

He explained to Western Post that those who accused him are mischievous and enemies of progress.

It would be recalled that the governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, gave the Chairman of the agency the sum of N30million as part of the state's palliative measures to alleviate the suffering of the people.

The oil-producing areas of the state currently on lockdown as the state government joined others to tackle the widespread of COVID-19.

While clearing air on the issue to Western Post, he said, those alleging had initially requested for their share of the money which he refused.

He explained that, the money was judiciously utilized for its purpose.

In his explanation, he said the agency bought 150 bags of rice at the rate of N19, 000 each and 140 bags of beans at N11000 each as well, with about N550, 000 worth of hand sanitizers and cash at hand for the militants and the religious leaders of the two communities, which already has gotten to the budgeted amount.

Meanwhile, the OSOPADEC chair was alleged to have bought hand sanitizers worth N500, 000, garri and beans of about N3 million out of the said N30million that was handed over to him by the State Governor.
