No crisis in Osun AD, says Oyinlola

The Director General of the Olugbenga Akintola Campaign Organisation for the September 22 governorship election in Osun State, Mr Yinka Oyinlola, has dismissed rumour of post-primary rancour in the party.

Akintola emerged the candidate of the Alliance for Democracy after the party's primary on June 25, this year.

But intra-party crisis had trailed the primary with some members reportedly unhappy with Akintola's emergency.

But Oyinlola said all the issues raised after the primary had been dealt with, adding that the AD in Osun was one united family.

He spoke during the coronation of the Ajalaye of Ipetu Ijesa, Oba Adeleke Agunbiade Oke.

In a statement issued after the ceremony, Akintola explained that while there was bound to be intra-party disagreement among aspirants, "the beauty of democracy is all about reaching an agreement among contestants for the party to move forward which we have done."

Oyinlola said, "It is true that we lost about 31 days waiting for the declaration of the party governorship candidate from the party's National Executive Council due to the intra-party problem associated with choosing the best candidate that will represent the party in the governorship election between Honourable Femi Kehinde and Architect Olugbenga Akintola.

"We conducted the primaries on June 25 in the presence of the representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission.  In the end, Akintola won by 46 as against Kehinde's 37. To be honest, we don't know why it took NEC 31 days to declare Akintola as the winner but in the long run, they did the needful.

"All the issues that this raised have been thrashed out and we have chosen our deputy from Ejigbo, Osun West in the person of Mr Akeem Bello because the governorship candidate is from Osun East."
