A not-for-profit organization, The Educate Africa Project, TEAP in collaboration with the Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, recently launched a Mathematics Fun Club for government-owned primary schools in the State.
Speaking at the launch, the project coordinator and founder of TEAP, Mr Kunle Ajayi, disclosed that the club is aimed at helping pupils in primary schools overcome their phobia for Mathematics, as well as boost their confidence in the subject under a relaxed atmosphere and learning with fun.
According to him, the flagship project, which is first of its kind in Nigeria, would also imbibe in the pupils problem solving skills, analytical, decision making, leadership, creative, logic, social, critical thinking, team spirit, financial literacy, coding and entrepreneurial skills.
He said: "In the 21st century and fourth industrial revolution dominated by Robotics, Artificial intelligence, 3D printing, Nanotechnology, Automated responder, Biotechnology, Block chain technology, Cyber security etc. There is an urgent need to modify learning methodology in our schools, hence government schools must not be left behind, so that they can keep up with the latest trend as well as train pupils who would be globally competitive."
Ajayi, therefore, called on individuals, corporate organizations and government institutions, to collaborate with TEAP so that the initiative can be extended to the other 35 states of the federation including the FCT, and to other African countries.
In her address, Chairperson of SUBEB, Princess Oladunni Odu commended TEAP for the initiative, noting she was delighted that the programme started with Ondo State.
Odu, who was represented at the event by the Director of School Services in the State, Mr Clement Adesuyi, assured participants that the State Government would that the race to infinity Mathematics board game is made available in all primary schools in the State.
