In what seems like a Sunday tragedy, 10 persons have been killed in separate road accidents in Ondo state.
While an earlier road clash claimed killed 6 persons along the popular Lagos-Benin-Ore Expressway, 4 persons lost their lives in Akungba Akoko when a truck rammed into a market after a brake failure.
A black Mercedes Benz jeep with registration number EPE 144 EW going to Lagos and a blue Toyota Carina car with registration number KTP 580 RG heading to Igbotako were all that was needed to cause a tragedy along the Lagos-Ore expressway.
A source simply identified as Segun narrated that the driver of the jeep had manoeuvred to the one-way lane after sighting a road diversion before it collided with the other vehicle coming from the opposite direction.
Segun conformed that seven persons were killed including the driver.
"The jeep was going to Lagos and the other vehicle heading to Igbotako. It was after Akinfosile Junction, where the driver of the jeep who was on top speed wanted to cross to the other lane after seeing diversion and ran into the coming vehicle and all the 7 persons were killed," he said.
Men of the Ondo State Police Command protected the driver of the jeep from being attacked by the angry mob.
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ondo State, Olusegun Ogungbemide while confirming the accident, however said six persons were killed and one other injured.
He said: "Yes, I can confirm that the accident happened at Ago-Idogun along the express way and our men were on ground for rescue mission where six persons died and one person was injured."
Meanwhile, a similar occurrence left Akungba Akoko residents in sorrow after a truck lost control and later rammed into the popular ibaka market in the university town, leaving four people dead while several others were injured.
While confirming the incident, the Ondo State Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr. Vincent Jack said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of the State Specialists Hospital in Ikare Akoko while the injured were also taken to the same hospital for treatment.
He urged the motorists to always avoid overspending and also be mindful of the rules and regulations of the traffic.
