A renowned medical practitioner based in Akure, Dr. Thomas-Wilson Ikubese, who recently declared his intention to run for the office of the President of the country on the platform of the National Conscience Party (NCP), said he is contesting to redefine governance and democracy in the country.
At his official declaration held at the Akure City Hall, Dr. Ikubese hinged his decision to run for the most exalted position in the country come 2019 on his desire to ensure purposeful leadership that would bring about genuine change in Nigeria.
NCP was a political party founded by the renowned Human Rights Activist, Late Chief Gani Fawehinmi.
The chairman of Sckye Hospital noted that he is ready and prepared to address the headlong problem confronting the nation and bring positive change to the citizenry.
He promised to make Nigeria a pride of the black race and also make it join the developed world.
The Presidential aspirant added that the country is blessed with vast natural and human resources that if well tapped, would put the country on the right path thereby making it a reference point agriculturally, industrially and in other sectors of the economy.
Dr. Ikubese called on youths in the country to rise up and join him in what he referred to as civil revolution, just as he charged the youth to also vie for elective offices in their various localities.
He explained that in 2011, he wrote a book titled, "My Prescription for Nigeria" where he stated 23 areas that must be addressed for the country to become "the nation of our dreams", promising to put machineries in place for the actualisation of the recommendations, which will birth the New Nigeria of our dreams".
"I hereby call on our youths, who form 70% of the Nigerian population, to rise up and join me in this civil revolution through the ballot box come 2019.
" I hereby encourage our youths to rise up to this challenge and vie for elective offices in their various localities. We must however identify credible youths in our domain with leadership qualities who are selfless, visionary and worthy of our votes", he stressed.
He advised the electorate to take their destiny into their hands and be campaign managers of the project called "Revolution-Nigeria-2019" and spread the good news in their localities.
In their separate remarks, the state Chairman of the NCP, Davis Oluwasuyi, Elder Kayode Esho, President , TBA in the state, Mrs. Eunice Omonilale and Revd. Gbenga Awe, promised to give the aspirant the necessary support to ensure his emergence come 2019 general elections and urged prospective voters who have not gotten their PVCs to do so.
