To commemorate Nigeria's 57th independence anniversary, Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has freed 30 prisoners from the Medium Prison, Olokuta in Akure.
The prisoners who have been serving various jail terms were freed on the recommendation of the State Advisory Council.
According to a statement released by the state Commissioner for Information, Yemi Owolabi, most of the prisoners released were recommended on account of their good conducts while serving their respective jail terms.
The governor also expressed hope that the pardoned prisoners will be of good behaviour and contribute their quota to the development of the state.
The statement also said the pardon of prisoners is a tradition that has been carried out by past governors as a show of mercy and good faith in the trust that humanity can still be a force for good and our society can still be a better place to live in, hence the symbolism behind the release.
