It was the second regular meeting of the National Council on Niger Delta after the first regular meeting held in 2013 in Akwa Ibom state and Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo was to grace the day five of the 7-day program at the main auditorium of the International Event Center, The Dome in Akure.
These were the 5 notable things that happened in the cause of the visit:
The streets were filled with policemen in droves as they lined the major points of streets leading to the airport in a show of security in strong anticipation of the Vice President of Nigeria; Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
The road that links First Bank road at the Mobil filling station was barricaded with security agents at focal points.
This action created a high wave of traffic as motorists were prevented from taking the usual route that leads to the dome where the Vice president was to give his address at the meeting.
Most motorists and cyclists were left with no other choice than to navigate through Ijapo- Oke Ijebu axis which leads to First bank Alagbaka before the final drive was made to the dome.
4. Many journalists barred from entering the dome
Few minutes after the arrival of the Vice President, military officials were assigned to prevent press officials who had been accredited for the seven-day event.
Resisted, barred, refrained were the words to describe the plight of bulk of journalists who came to cover the events.
It was an agonizing one hour of aggressive tussle as reporters from various media outlets engaged in a verbal combat with military officials who remained defiant to their plights.
5. Maritime University will take off soon
The vice president did not leave the sunshine state without making promising the take off of maritime university in the Niger Delta region with two billion naira.
