The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) yesterday in Abuja directed , the disco company, Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, to resume back to the affected communities in the four local government areas for the immediate repair of damaged electricity facilities and timely restoration of power supply to the affected LGs.
This decision was reached as a fall out of the stakeholders meeting that the leadership of Bring Back Our Light, (BBOL) held with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) which has all the representatives of various relevant stakeholders from across Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government in attendance at the NERC office Abuja.
The team was led by Hon. Mike Adeniyi Omogbehin, the lawmaker representing Okitipupa and Irele federal constituency along with Hon. Kolade Akinjo, the lawmaker representing Ilaje and Ese Odo federal constituency.
Other members of the group were : Hon. Solomon Bitire, former Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government and the Chairman Planning, Strategies and Implementation Committee of BBOL, Prince S. T Aderehinwo, the Chairman Due Diligence Audit Committee on Electricity Debts of BBOL and the Administrator of the Group, Pastor Olumide Akinrinlola.
According to a statement released by BBOL, a voluntary and apolitical group formed to restore light to the areas,NERC also directed all parties (BBOL and BEDC) to reconcile and resolve the disputed account on electricity debts within two weeks.
The group thereby appealed to People of the areas to cooperate with BEDC staff as they will resume back to work next week.
BBOL also appreciated them for their tolerance, and peace loving attitude exhibited since they were cut off from the national grid in November 2014.
The statement, signed by Pastor Olumide Akinrinlola whao is the administrator of the group concluded the statement with the statement "This is victory of Light over darkness! BBOL return all the glory to God".
