The Chairman of the Panel set up by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) on Ondo State Radiovision Corporation (OSRC), Mr. Kunle Adebayo, has said the panel was working assiduously to ensure the state-owned TV station regains its lost glory.
Adebayo made the disclosure while appearing alongside other members of the panel before the House Committee on Information, Youth and Sport Development, chaired by Hon. Olamide George.
The appearance of the 5-member panel was sequel to the invitation by the State House of Assembly which asked the panel to come and explain the reason for indefinite closure of the TV station since the last two months.
Other members of the panel are; Mr. Soji Alakuro, former General Manager of OSRC; Barrister Steve Alabi; Mrs. Ireti Ojekua and Mr. Isijola Olatunbosun, the Secretary of the panel.
Adebayo, after extensive closed door meeting which lasted for over an hour with the House Committee on Information, Youth and Sport Development confirmed that Ondo State Radiovision Information, OSRC had a lot of problems bothering on technicals among others.
The panel Chairman, however, noted that efforts would be made to ensure all the problems are surmounted to the benefit of the state.
Adebayo asserted that it is important that OSRC is made to become the pride of Ondo State, as it had been before, just as he emphasised that the panel was committed to ensuring that the only state-owned TV station becomes the best among its peers in the country.
He explained that the panel had told OSRC staff on several occasions that the exercise was not put in place to sack workers, but to make sure that radical decisions are taken to ensure human resources redistribution in order to ensure the station regains its pride of place.
While saying that any form of criminality would be dealt with, Adebayo added that necessary laws would be put in place to ensure the operation of the government-owned station runs seamlessly and profitably without any forms of abuse.
He, however, did not give the actual day that the station would be reopened but promised to bring back a digitised OSRC.
He also promised to continue to support the governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in all his efforts to get all the state-owned media houses to compete favourably with any of their peers in the country.
Chairman, House Committee on Information, Youth and Sport Development, Hon. Olamide George, said the invitation became imperative following the House investigation coupled with series of complaints from the public.
He explained that the House Committee has listened to the panel and was satisfied with all the explanations given which led to the closure of the station.
The Chairman urged the people to be patient with the panel as it set out to reposition the station for effective performance, expressing optimism that the state-owned media outfit would come back better and digitalised.
