Stakeholders in Ondo State have expressed regrets over non passage of the security Trust fund bill before the national assembly ten years after it was first presented.
They expressed their regrets at a townhall meeting organized by the Ondo state command of the police and attended by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Foluso Adebanjo.
The meeting which was held at the officers mess, saw in atrendance stakeholders including traditional rulers, religious leaders, non governmental organizations, youth and students groups, paramilitary organisations, representatives of rank and file of serving and retired police personnel.
This is the second visit to Ondo State by a top brass of the Nigeria police force whithin a spate of twenty four hours.
The meeting afforded stakeholders opportunity to bare their minds on issues relating to effective policing as well as the complimentary roles the police and civilians should play to avhieve a crime-free society.
Addressing the gathering, DIG Foluso Adebanjo commended the people of Ondo for being peace loving and ready to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
Reacting to the issues of the non passage of the security trust fund by the national assembly, DIG Adebanjo challenged state governors to take up the challenge just as he urged his officers to deepen partnership with sister agencies
Representatives of the police community relations committee, Rtd Col Falayi and retired Police Officers Association, Compol Adetuyi harp on the need for a security trust fund which they noted will help solve the myraids of challenges confronting the police.
Representative of the Governor, Gbenga Elewiju, who is the secretary on cabinet matters in the Governor's office pledged the constant support of the government to all security agencies for a crime-free Ondo State.
The state police commissioner, Hilda ibifuro Harrison said the visit by the DIG shows that the police hierarchy is concerned about happenings in ondo state.
