85 FUTA graduates bag First Class

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has said that a total number of 4, 241 students would be graduating for the 2015/2016 academic session, in which 85 made first class.

Speaking at a briefing as part of the activities for the 28th Convocation Ceremony, Professor Olaniyi Okunlola, the University's Ceremonials Committee Chairman disclosed that a total of 4,241 graduands are to be bestowed with the university's degrees.

He explained that 68 would be conferred with certificates in Diploma Programmes from the Centre for Continuing Education, 2,889 Undergraduates and 1,284 from the School of Postgraduate Studies.

He said Ali Abdul-Hafeez Semomhe from the Department of Electrical Electronic Engineering emerged overall best graduating student for the 2015/2016 academic session with a C.G.P.A of 4.89 from a pool of 85 students who bagged first class.

The convocation lecture ,titled; 'Scholarship, Globalization and Underdevelopment: Wither Univeristies of Technology' would be delivered by Professor Michael Faborode, a professor of Agricultural Engineering, former Vice chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University and current Secretary-General, Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities.

Prof. Okunlola further said the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwan Suleiman Adamu, who is the Chancellor of the university, would preside over the Grand Finale on Saturday ,March 18 during which Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the nation's former Minister of Agriculture and current President, African Development Bank (AfDB), and Professor Rainer Horn, a German would be conferred with Honorary Degrees in Agriculture and Management respectively.
