Another round of crisis is brewing between the Igbo community in Akure, the Ondo State capital and the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi over the plan to install a 'leader' for the Igbo community.
The plan by the Igbos in the state capital goes ahead it could pitch the community against the Deji-in-Council and create tension among the community that had lived together harmoniously for decades.
But the Monarch through his spokesperson Mr Michael Adeyeye said he was not aware of any title of Eze Ndigbo in the state.
The monarch said he has contacted the Obi of Onitsha and other monarchs in the Eastern part of the country and they disowned any title of Eze Ndigbo in any part of the country.
But in a statement signed by Messrs James Chukwujekwu and Samuel Maduka on behalf Concern Igbo Indigenes living in the state raised the alarm that the plan by the Deji-in-Council to install Eze Ndigbo for the Igbo would create crisis in the town among the Igbo community in the state.
Chuckwujekwu and Madula in a statement Thursday said Sir Gregory Iloehika has been elected as Eze Ndigbo by all the Igbo communities in the state since August 20111 and any attempt to appoint another leader for the community would lead to crisis.
The duo, who spoke on behalf of others, said: "We wish to reiterate that the presence of the Igbos which led to the emergence of Igbo association call Ndigbo has been long in existence in Ondo State over nine decades. It has been the practice of the Igbo community to democratically elect who is to lead them at any point in time."
