Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, yesterday disclosed that the state had no record of polio in the last seven years of his administration.
Mimiko who expressed government's determination to partner with relevant agencies in order to sustain the Polio-Free status of the state, promised that everything would be done to keep polio out of the state.
Speaking at the palace of the traditional ruler of Akure Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo, at the event marking this year's World Polio Day, organized by the Rotary Club International, he called on mothers to always take advantage of the Ondo Routine Immunization Reaching Every Ward (ORIREWA), as this would go a long way in making their children healthy and useful in life.
The governor who was represented by the commissioner for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, urged the traditional ruler to always sensitize the people of Akure on the importance of immunization.
While commending the organisation for organising the programme, Mimiko described their gesture as service to humanity and mankind.
The governor urged other non governmental organizations in the state to emulate the organisation.
Earlier, the traditional ruler of Akure Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ogunlade Aldetoyinbo, had lauded the Mimiko-led government for its giant strides.
