The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo state has condemned the disruption of peace in Akure, Ondo state capital, on Friday by some members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.
The party said the demonstration was stage managed by those who wanted to give a wrong impression that they were popular with the people of the state.
It frowned at what it described as the destructive tendencies and hooliganism of the protesters, who went on rampage making bonfires and blocking highways and major township roads with all manners of items such as logs, planks, benches, wooden tables and chairs.
A statement by the Director of Media and Publicity, Yemi Akintomide, urged security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the act, prosecute and bring them to book.
"We are convinced that the action of few bad elements within the drivers' union in the state, who led some street urchins in a stage managed protest, did not go down well with the people of the state.
"They were acting on the directive of the state government and leaders of the Eyitayo Jegede group, in pretence that the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to abide by a Federal High Court judgment to replace the name of Jegede with that of Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim as the authentic candidate of PDP for the November 26, 2016 governorship election.
"This is very far from the truth as it is a common knowledge across the 18 local government areas that the good people of our darling Sunshine state rolled out the drums when the INEC final list of candidates was out and the name of Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim featured boldly as the candidate of PDP.
"It was sounds of joy coming from Okeagbe, Etikan, Owo, Okeigbo, Idanre, Ondo , Igbokoda, Irele, Arogbo, Akotogbo, Iju and across towns and villages in the state, where residents openly expressed profound happiness, breathed a fresh air of freedom and celebrated sudden death of tyrannical style of government in the state for over seven years.
"We, however, urge the good people of the state to go about their normal duties, not minding the unruly behaviour of few miscreants who have mortgaged their consciences and the future of their children in exchange for peanuts paid to them by their pay masters to disturb the peace of the land."
