NANS To Intervene On The OAU SUG Leaders Suspension

The attention of the National Association of Nigerian Students have been drawn to a statement credited to some OAU students under an unknown group to question NANS intervention on the suspended OAU student leaders and also blame NANS  for not informing or updating them on their intervention so far.
It is on this note, that NANS finds it necessary to address the press in order to update OAU Students and the entire Nigerian students on our intervention.

NANS is also concerned about the welfare of Nigerian students on OAU campus and the stability / regularization in the academic calendar of the institution.
On our intervention, NANS started the intervention in December, 2015 when an enquiry visit was made to OAU campus. During our visit, a meeting was held with the management team led by the Dean of Student's Affairs and at the meeting, NANS team was briefed on an ongoing panel set up by OAU senate to investigate and judge the crises that occurred.

NANS concluded at the meeting after noting the major causes of the crises that led to the suspension of union activities and some students' union leaders which led to our plea to OAU management towards the reinstatement of the suspended student leaders and union activities.

The intervention got a U turn when a mass protest was planned on 13 January , 2016 by NANS Zone-D but was later aborted due to the intervention of NANS National body, the Ooni of Ife and a release by Student leaders calling for a 'cease-fire" after acknowledging the efforts of NANS-National, NANS Zone-D, and other major Stakeholders.

We want to use this medium to assure all Nigerian students and most especially OAU students that with our intervention and other major stakeholders, the student leaders and students' union activities will soon be reinstated.

Furthermore, our attention have been drawn to a release purported to discredit or blackmail the Vice-Chancellor and the Management Team by an unknown group on OAU campus associating itself with NANS and the suspended student leaders to their release tagged 'OPERATION-PROBE-OMOLE'
On this note NANS unequivocally disassociate itself from the activities of this unknown group calling for the probe of the Vice–Chancellor and the Management Team.

It must be noted that the ongoing intervention between NANS, university management, ASUU-OAU and Prof. Y.K. Yusuf have been positive and productive. We strongly condemn the activities of this unknown group trying to hide under the intervention on the suspended student leaders and disassociate ourselves from any of their release.

Finally, we want to re-assure all OAU students and Nigerian students at large of our commitment towards the reinstatement of the suspended student leaders and the urgent restoration of students' union activities on campus.

We hope our next update will bring more progressive news as regards the reinstatement of the suspended Student leaders and Student' Union activities.

God bless Great Ife Students' Union
God Bless NANS
God Bless FRN

Aluta Continua!!!

Signed.

Ayenuro Timileyin Gbenga
Vice President [National Affairs]
National Association of Nigerian Students.
