The Emir of Keffi in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Mohammadu Chindo Yamusa II, is dead.
The Galadima of Keffi, Alhaji Abdul Usman, confirmed this on Friday at a news conference in Keffi Local Government Area of the state.
The Galadima, who is also the emir's cousin, said that the late monarch, who took ill briefly, died in the early hours of Friday in his palace in Keffi.
He said "our emir, the promoter of peace and culture died this morning after a brief illness.
"His death is heartbreaking, painful but God gives life and takes it at will.
"The emir had contributed a lot to the development of not only Keffi, but to the development of Nasarawa State and the entire country while alive.''
According to him, the late emir was 70 years ago and was enthroned on May 11, 1978.
The Galadiman Keffi called on the people of the state to pray for the family of the late emir, adding that the death was a huge loss to the Keffi Emirate Council and the state at large.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that Yamusa II left two wives and 27 children and many grand children.
NAN reports that at the time of filling this report, traditional rulers, including the Emir of Lafia, Alhaji Mustapha Isah Agwai 1 and other sympathisers were seen trooping the late emir's palace in Keffi.
Meanwhile, the final funeral rites and burial of the late emir would be performed after Juma'at prayer in Keffi in accordance with Islamic teaching.
