The supplementary governorship election in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa has been slated for January 9, 2016 by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
INEC had declared the governorship election which held on December 5 as inconclusive after acts of violence, ballot box snatching and abduction of electoral officials, marred the exercise in the area.
The electoral commission had already announced the results in seven out of the eight local government areas with the incumbent governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Seriake Dickson, leading his main rival, former governor Timipre Sylva of the APC, by over 33, 000 votes.
The spokesperson for INEC, Nick Dazang, who confirmed the new date for election in Southern Ijaw local government, which has the largest voter population in the state, said the commission had already issued a public notice on the date.
