Business activities were today paralyzed in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government area of Ondo state, following a rumored invasion of the town by suspected Armed Robbers.
It was rumored that the robbery led to the earlier closing of some Commercial banks and several commercial outfits operating along Olusegun Mimiko street, the commercial hub of the town.
Also, Commercial transport operators temporarily suspended activities in the area .
Bank customers resorted to the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) as the banks have closed for bussiness.
Although the town was calm, security was however beefed up as regular and mobile policemen from various divisions were seeing patrolling the town.
The Divisional Police Officers ( DPO) in all the three divisions in the town were also seen mobilizing their men, deploying them in strategic locations to assure the people of the town of their safety.
Reacting to the development, some of the residents of the town, expressed serious concern about the security situation which they said should be urgently addresses in order for it not to have negative effect on business activities in the town.
When contacted on phone, Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) Ondo state command, Mr. Femi Joseph,said he is currently in Abuja for an official assignment, but explained that the police are always at alert to curtail any security breaches in the town.
He therefore urged members of the public to go about their lawful duties without any fear.
