GOVERNOR RAUF AREGBESOLA'S PREFACE ON DARE ELUYEMI'S BOOK "XCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE"

It gives me great pleasure to write the prefatory remarks on Dare Eluyemi's book on leadership titled Xceptional Performance.

Leadership is one of the most important concepts in human society, even among social animals. From the big lions to the small ants, their survival and achieving group objectives must be well coordinated through effective leadership. The big animals, particularly the cats, are even more brutal on matters of leadership – they do not tolerate weak and ineffectual leadership.

Humans are more sophisticated and have acquired culture and through this have built institutions for producing leaders and for enthroning leaders.

From the family at birth, through formal education to the highest level, then self-education and ultimately through the school of life, we are positioned to be educated and prepared for the leadership challenges we face as individuals, group, community and at a wider level in the state and nation. This will also include even global challenges that we face as a race, ethnic group, continent or humanity in general.

Our political institutions of democracy and even kingship have been carefully primed to enthrone leaders. The various business organisation also have leadership development and succession schemes.
Regrettably, one of the tragedies of our time is the dearth of leaders in every stratum of society.

In our nation and in most of Africa, we have had political failures in the past because we do not have leaders who can rise to the challenge of development in the last six decades or so.

As a political leader, I know and can feel the burden of leadership. It is a task I was well prepared for, having cut my leadership teeth in the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu School of Leadership. The formal and informal education I have received in life prepared me well for my assignment. Of course, I do not take for granted the grace of God upon my life.

However, I have been able to make positive impact in the governance and administration of Osun and have been able to bravely face daunting challenges and thread on paths where angels dared not, because I take my leadership responsibilities seriously.

I am therefore very thrilled anytime I come across individuals that address the subject of leadership. Dare is a young man who has (and) demonstrated great leadership potentials. These can be seen in his various multi-talent engagements as a musicologist, life coach, motivational speaker and author.

His career development also fill me with great hope for his generation. A new generation is silently emerging in Osun. The leading lights of this generation are well educated, well focused and visionary. They are energetic and relentless in the pursuit of goals. I have great expectation that we are going to win through them.

This book on leadership discusses how to be a leader by setting up a good team, setting goals and pursuing them. It discusses also how to be a motivational speaker. A good leader must be able to motivate his or her team through inspiring speeches. The book also teaches the reader the science and art of entrepreneurship.

This is another level where leadership is needed. We have many workers; we also have employers and titular heads in business organisations but there are few entrepreneurs in the real sense of it. It is entrepreneurs who make a run with a business idea, source for finances, assemble a team and take the risks. The economic success of any nation can therefore never happen behind entrepreneurs.

I am unreservedly recommending this book for the widest readership possible, I also recommend the author for the best possible engagement in his various vocations.
