A former governor of Kebbi State now Senator, Alhaji Muhammad Adamu Aliero, yesterday revealed the reason why former governors at the Senate are supporting Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Some political commentators have often described the Senate as a dumping ground for ex-governors as their population in the red chambers is presently put at 14.
Saraki, who is undergoing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on 13 count charges of false asset declaration, is a former governor and his former governor colleagues have proven to be a strong pillar of support so far.
In an interview on Monday, Aliero (APC, Kebbi Central) gave four reasons why they threw their weight behind the Senate president.
"One, he was a former governor like us. So far, he is leading the Senate very well. So, I don't see reasons why he should not be supported.
"He is giving the right leadership to us; he is trying to carry everybody along; he is very supportive of the Executive arm of government and Saraki is leading the Senate properly.
"Also, Saraki is trying to unite the Senate irrespective of political differences and factions, he tries to be fair to all and nobody is complaining", he said.
According to Sen. Aliero, "we will continue to support him as long as he is supporting what President Muhammadu Buhari is doing. If he goes wrong, we will not hesitate to caution him so that he can amend".
