Buhari Leaves For India Tuesday

‎President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja Tuesday for New Delhi, India, to participate in the 3rd Summit of the India-Africa Forum.
The forum, established in 2008, is the official platform for the advancement of mutually-beneficial relations between India and African nations.



A statement on Sunday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said President Buhari, Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi; and other participating Heads of State and Government at this year's summit will deliberate on issues currently of common concern to their countries such as climate change, poverty alleviation and international terrorism.

"They are also expected to discuss additional measures aimed at boosting joint collaboration to accelerate the pace of socio-economic development in Africa and India as well as further cooperation for the alleviation of poverty and the eradication of hunger, disease and illiteracy", Shehu said.

The statement added that ahead of the opening of the summit on Thursday, President Buhari will meet with CEOs of Indian Companies with existing or prospective interests in Nigeria.

Accompanying the president on the visit to New Delhi are the Governors of Kano and Delta States; Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje and Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa respectively and National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd.).

Others are the Permanent Secretaries in the Ministries of Defence, Power, Communications Technology, Agriculture, Foreign Affairs and Industry, Trade and Investment.

President Buhari is expected back in the country on Friday, October 30.‎
