Ndume emerged on Thursday, June 25, 2015, despite the All Progressives Congress (APC) nominating Ahmed Lawan for the post.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki has named Borno State Senator, Ali Ndume as the Majority Leader of the eighth Senate.
Ndume emerged on Thursday, June 25, 2015, despite the All Progressives Congress (APC) nominating Ahmed Lawan for the post.
Other appointments announced are:
Bala Na' Allah (Kebbi South) - Deputy Majority Leader
Francis Alimikhena - Deputy Chief Whip
APC Chairman, John Oyegun had written to Saraki urging him to choose Lawan for the position but the Senate President refused to read Oyegun's letter on the Senate floor hinting that he had no intentions of abiding by the party's wishes.
The APC has been embroiled in crisis since Saraki emerged Senate President after defying the party to contest despite Lawan being chosen as the party's sole candidate.
