Muslim clerics rally support for Mbaka

Muslim clerics, under the aegis of Council of Imams and Ulama in Kaduna State, have mobilised support for Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka, who spoke against President Goodluck Jonathan, saying it was wrong for some Nigerians to speak ill of the man of God.

The Ulamas suggested that Nigerians, rather than castigating Mbaka, should take time and reflect on the issues he raised.

Sheik Abubakar BabaTune and Yusuf Yakubu Arrigasiyyu; chairman and secretary  of the council respectively, said in a statement on Monday, that Father Mbaka, as a cleric, only expressed his concern on the state of the nation as it affected bad governance.

They said it was obligatory upon Islamic leaders  to tell the truth as it is in the glorious Quran, Chapter 2:159, adding that "Verily, those who concealed the clear proofs, evidences and the guidance, which We have sent down after We have made it clear, for the people in the Book, they are the ones cursed by Allah and cursed by the cursers."

The Ulamas said democracy was not about corruption, killing of innocent souls, destruction of property, bad leadership, witch-hunting, poverty, unemployment and mismanagement of resources as visible today, but absolute good governance.

"As far as we are concerned, Islam is a complete way of life,'' the statement added.
