Mimiko inaugurates Ajasin varsity governing council

A 23-member governing council of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko in Ondo State, has been inaugurated by the state Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko.

The new governing council, headed by Ambassador Oladele Akadiri, was inaugurated on Wednesday, at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor's office in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Speaking at the ceremony,Governor Olusegun Mimiko noted that the composition of the council was based purely on records of achievements, experience, integrity and commitment to service, stressing that the state government was meticulous in the selection of members because of the need to inject people who had distinguished themselves in both private and public sectors.

Dr Mimiko, who urged the council to develop new strategies to further complement the efforts of the state government at making the institution a truly world class citadel of learning, also stressed the need for members to always lead by example and protect the rights of the people within the academic community, irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliations.

The governor charged the council members to ensure fairness in the recruitment of staff, and to respect the rule of law and follow due process in handling administrative issues, emphasising the significance of harmonious relationship between the university and the host communities.

He, however, lauded the contributions of members of the immediate past governing council and the vice -chancellor of the university, Professor Femi Mimiko towards the unprecedented transformation of the institution.

In his speech, Ambassador Akadiri, appreciated the state government for the confidence reposed in him and members of the new council, and assured the governor of their loyalty and determination to contribute their quota to the development of the institution and tertiary education in the state.
