OAU, Osun poly students protest outage

Students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and Osun State Polytechnic, Ilesha are currently protesting outages on their campuses.

The students claimed that the state of electricity had been epileptic on their campuses for about a month.

While students of the OAU boycotted lectures on Tuesday, the polytechnic students barricaded the Ife-Ibadan expressway.

The students displayed several placards with inscriptions like 'BringBackOurLight and Our Education Must be Taken Seriously' among others.

Speaker of the OAU Students Representative Council, Rahman Tiamiyu, while addressing the students, said the students boycotted lectures as a result of the 10-day blackout.

President of OAU Students Union, Ibikunle Isaac, noted that several efforts made to amicably resolve the "constant power outage" failed.

Also, the polytechnic students, who stormed the highway, insisted that they would not relent from 'continuous protests' until their demands were addressed.

They lamented that the Power Holding Company of Nigeria had refused to live up to their expectations, saying the erratic power supply was affecting their studies.

National Association of Nigerian Students, Osun State, has, however, appealed to the students not to take laws into their hands.
