Torrential midnight rain which resulted into flooding on Tuesday wreaked havoc in some communities and residential areas in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

Some of the affected areas include 1 and 4 Motunrayo Olanipekun Close, Saka-Saka Street, Odota; Oko-Erin, Irewolede Housing Estate along Asa Dam Road and Ita Amadu areas of Ilorin.

But there was no casualty report as at the time of filing this report. At 1 and 4 Motunrayo Olanipekun Close, the flood pulled down some fences of the buildings and flooded the rooms downstairs and destroyed many household items such as electronics and other valuables. The collapsed fences damaged three vehicles.

The flood, according to a resident who declined to identify himself, covered the bridge along Oko-Erin Road and also affected nearby residents.

When our correspondent visited that area, grief-stricken residents were seen salvaging remnants of their flooded property.

Our correspondent gathered that the flood also collapsed three sections of the Irewolede Housing Estate along Asa Dam Road as well as the fences of two buildings beside the bridge along the road nearCircular Hotel.

It also wreaked havoc on houses beside the bridge at the popular Ita Amodu business area of Ilorin.

The resident, mostly traders who were salvaging their goods when our correspondent visited said the bridge had become a death trap as its stability must have been compromised as a result of the volume of the flood.
