No fewer than 350 officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in Cross River State have been trained on arms handling and maintenance by the Nigeria Army.

The state Commandant of NSCDC, Dr. Benito Eze, made this disclosure on Saturday during the corps' staff cooperative society meeting in Calabar.

He charged personnel of the corps to utilize the knowledge and skills given to them during the period of the training in the discharge of their duties.

"In the area of capacity building, over 350 personnel of the corps have been trained on arms handling and maintenance by the Nigeria Army in Calabar," he said.

Benito also urged members of the public to always avail intelligence information to security agencies to help curb the present security challenges in the country.

According to Eze, insecurity is a global menace that requires intelligence and information gathering to curb it.

He said that security agents would continue to evolve new strategies to checkmate terrorism activities and to ensure that Nigeria is completely free from crime and insurgency.

"I am calling on members of the public to always avail the corps with every intelligence information; and this sincere information should be delivered on time. When this information is made available to us on time, it will enhance our ability to curb the challenges," he said.

The commandant warned personnel of the corps to avoid all forms of corrupt practices so that the trust and confidence the public have on them would remain firm.

He said, "As men of the NSCDC, you must remain committed to your duty and must always make the corps mission statement of honesty, humility and integrity in service delivery. According to SERVICOM policy, you must be ready to serve the public at all times and not the public serving you."
