Osun alleges plans by FG to withhold monthly allocation

BARELY 42 days to the governorship election in Osun, the state governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has alleged plans by the Federal Government to withhold the statutory monthly federal allocation to the state and other states under the control of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at a public participatory programme tagged Gbagede Oro at Ijebu-jesa in Oriade local council, Aregbesola alleged that the plot by the government at the centre was to cripple the states controlled by opposition party financially, thereby creating problem for them to run the system efficiently.

He hinted that part of the plot was the alleged late release of the May monthly allocation from the federation account to Osun State, stating that the objective was to cripple the state and cause disaffection among the state workforce towards his administration in order to frustrate his second term bid.

The governor said the alleged plan to make the workers revolt against his government would fail, saying that an alternative way had been adopted to ensure that workers receive their salaries regularly.

He urged other APC-controlled states to brace up toward the challenge as the 2015 general elections approach.   The governor, while answering questions during the public interactive feedback programme said aside from the drastic drop in the allocation, plans were underway to stop it temporarily to Osun State.

He said, "Let me tell you that there are plans by the Federal Government not to release the allocation of the coming months before the election so as to cripple our government, thinking that we will not be able to pay workers salary. I want to tell you that they have failed because we will device means of paying our workers."

He assured the people that his administration would not sack any worker despite the drop in allocation from the federation account
