Ekiti Poll: Residents besiege motor parks

Some major motor parks in Ekiti were besieged on Friday by residents trying to board commercial vehicles to their communities ahead of Saturday's governorship election in the state.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who visited the Fajuyi and Post-Office motor parks in Ado-Ekiti, reports that many residents were sighted trying to board vehicles to different destinations.

NAN also reports that there was an influx of travellers at the Ifaki and Otun garages in Ifaki-Ekiti, with many rushing for vehicles.

A resident, Mr Aanu Ajayi, who was sighted at the Fajuyi park trying to board a taxi with his wife and three children, told NAN that they registered at a polling unit in their Ara-Ikole Ekiti community.

Many travellers were also sighted at the Ido park in Ifaki where they struggled to board the few available commercial vehicles going to Ido, Ayetoro, Ijero and Oke-Imesi.

Transport fares, however, remained stable inspite of the influx of passengers at the various parks.

NAN also reports that transport fare from Ado-Ekiti to Ikole, Omuo and Otun-Ekiti remain N300, N500 and N600 respectively

A commercial driver plying the Ado-Ikole route, Mr Michael Olabisi, said transporters did not increase fares as there was no increase in pump price of fuel.

Olabisi added that Saturday's election was for the benefit of all residents of the state and would not be used to exploit travellers.

Meanwhile, Ikole and its environs remained calm on Friday as security operatives were sighted patrolling the area.
