Information reaching us has it that a group of youth suspected to be militants have allegedly hijacked the House of Representatives Ilaje/Ese-Odo by-election materials meant for the Arugbo ward two in Ese-Odo local government area of the State.

It was learnt that the hoodlums who stormed the INEC secretariat in the council quickly seized the materials, alleging that the government was owing them some amount of money and they would not return the materials until they are settled.

It was further gathered that security operatives who were at the centre could not handled the issue.

Confirming the development, the State INEC REC, Akin Orebiyi said they have been appealing to the aggrieved youth to release the materials in order to allow the election hold to no avail.

He said that election at the ward may be cancelled if the boys insist on holding unto the materials.

The Special Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs, Kingsley Kuku, while speaking with journalists at his unit, Arugbo ward one said immediately he was told about the incident, he informed the Soldier in charge of the zone to intervene.

"The Soldier told me he came to the place, took the leader of the youth inside his car and after haven spoken with him for some minutes, he asked the guy to go and he left. I told him, he had not arrested the issue yet. He promised to go back there and ensure the materials are released.

"We believe it's just a deliberate action by some people who are trying to deprive the electorates of their voting rights because the ward was for PDP. In the history of elections, PDP has been winning the ward".

However, the Commissioner for Sports in the State Pekekimi Idiore, who is also a member of the same unit with Kuku alleged that some electorates who were with fake voter cards were accredited.

As at the time of filing this report, the aggrieved youths are yet to release the election materials.
