Workers in the Ondo state civil service, on Tuesday, abandoned their duty post to stage a peaceful protest over what they called financial irregularities in the payment of their monthly salaries by Guaranty Trust Bank in Akure.

The protesting workers disrupted business transactions at the two branches of the bank at Alagbaka as they prevented customers from gaining entry into d banks.

The protesters were armed with various placards with inscriptions alleging officers of the bank of sabotaging government's effort at paying their salaries and later barricaded the bank premises with 3 waste disposal vans.

Addressing newsmen, Chairman of the state chapter of the Joint Negotiating Council, JNC, Comrade Sunday Adeleye alleged the bank of breaching the contract it had with the government over the loans some workers received in 2008 which made it to divert workers' salaries to service the loan.

Responding, the Operational Manager of the bank, Kehinde Oyeleke claimed that the bank had no issue with the workers, adding that top officials of the bank were consulting the state government to resolve the matter.

However, the area commander for the Nigeria Police, Edward Ajigun, his officers and other security operatives are on ground to prevent breakdown of law and order
