The Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, on Thursday commissioned the first office complex of the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Board (OSPHCDB), at Oke-eda, in Akure.

At the ceremony, Governor Mimiko said his administration believed that the establishment of the State primary Health Care Development Board in line with the national guideline of having Primary Health Care (PHC) under one roof will allow for a more robust coordination of the PHC system in the state, thereby improving the quality of care to the people across the nooks and crannies of the state.

In order to make the Board fully operational, Mimiko said his administration decided to put up a befitting secretariat complex, equipped with 21st century office facilities.

He said the office is connected to the national power grid, with a 250KVA generator and 120 KVA UPS inverter system to provide energy backup in order to ensure round the clock electricity supply to the complex.

Mimiko also commended the people of the state and other donor partners who had contributed in various ways to the success of the Primary Health Care Delivery in Ondo State.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju, described the establishment of the new outfit as another giant stride to further consolidate the achievements of the administration of Governor Olusegun Mimiko in the health sector.

The Commissioner explained that his ministry was already working towards overcoming all barriers associated with rural areas such as bad roads, distant from the state capital and other obstacles that might hinder adequate and smooth delivery of health care services to the people of the state.

He said patrol vehicles, motorcycles, boats and bicycles had been provided to make transportation to different parts of the state possible in line with their various terrains, while health rangers had been trained to move from one place to another in the eighteen local government areas.

The occasion also witnessed the signing of result based financing contract between the State Government and the representative of the world bank, the unveiling of the Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr O O Osunmakinwa and the presentation of vehicles and equipment to the Board and Local Government PHC Authorities.
