Ondo Government sets up kidney care centre

The Ondo State Government said on Tuesday that it had procured 15
dialysis machines for diagnosis of
kidney diseases. The Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju, told
newsmen in Akure that the machines had been
installed at the new Kidney Care Centre in Ondo town. "We have refused
to call it kidney dialysis centre because it goes beyond dialysis and
we are going to be
treating all kidney diseases such as stone in the kidney. "We have put
a team in place to work at the centre and we want to really reduce the
cost so that the centre
will be affordable to every patient. "The Governor has come with a
brilliant plan to make it very cheap so that our
people will be able to patronise it. It is not totally free", he said.
According to him, nobody with kidney disease can live with it beyond
five years because he cannot cope
with the cost of treatment. "That is why government is trying to make
it very cheap so that people can come in and have their dialysis
and then be able to live a healthy life."
