The House of Representatives Committee on Health as been mandated by the House to wade into the industrial crisis pitting the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) against the Federal Ministry of Health.

The committee, which has a week to accomplish its task and report back to the House, is expected to find amicable ways of resolving the strike impasse.

The House acting on a motion on 'urgent need to resolve the crisis in the health sector' moved by the Minority Whip, Hon. Samson Osagie (APC,Edo), urged the NMA and its members to call off the action they embarked upon last Tuesday.

The lawmakers also appealed to the Federal Government "to do everything possible as a matter of utmost urgency to have this crisis abated in the interest of the citizens of this country."

NMA had on Tuesday embarked on an indefinite strike, following the expiration of a two-week ultimatum it gave the Federal Government to meet its 24-point demand.

Mr. Obembe, said the association opted for a "total and indefinite strike" at an emergency delegates meeting held on June 28, after negotiations with the federal government failed to yield relevant results.
