OSRC crisis: Eight workers suspended

Eight Workers of the Ondo State Radio Vision Corporation (OSRC) Orita-Obele in Akure, the State Capital were yesterday suspended over the lingering crisis rocking the state-owned broadcasting station.

Sources said that majority of the affected workers are journalists from the News department, including the current Chairman of NUJ OSRC Chapel,Wahab Bankole, his predecessor, Taiwo Ibitoye, Sola Obagbemisoye, Akinwumi Abodunde, Obafemi Sogbe and Lanrewaju Bankole Kole.

Others are Bayo Olanusi of the Programmes Department and Tunji Ogidan of Engineering Department, who is the incumbent RATTAWU's Chairman in the Corporation.

It would be recalled that following a recent protest by OSRC workers over alleged poor working condition, a probe panel headed by former HOS, Mr Ajose Kudehinbu was set up to look into various problems militating against the organisation.

In a letter signed by the Director, Finance & Administration (DFA), Mr S.O Fatukasi on behalf of the Governing Board, dated July 2, the affected workers were placed on an indefinite suspension without pay.

Besides, they are not to be seen within the premises of the Corporation during the suspension order, while they should also hand over the corporation's property, including staff identity cards to the office of the DFA.

It was learnt that the offence of the suspended workers was hinged on their appearance before the Kudehinbu's panel where they exposed various lapses in the organisation led by its Director-General, Ladi Akeredolu-Ale.

Three of the affected workers, Obagbemisoye, Abodunde and Olanusi were given one month suspension apart from loosing their next promotion.

Sources hinted that a member of the governing board and chairman, disciplinary committee, Mrs Bisi Adanri was not comfortable with the verdict and had to leave the meeting just like her colleague, Mrs Kehinde Alli.

Findings revealed that the decision of the Board was against the recommendation of the panel that the issue of the alleged" financial indiscipline" in the corporation should be checked.

There was anxiety at the Corporation over the suspension of the workers who observers said are capable hands in the corporation.

Already, two officials, Mrs Nike Thompson and Mrs Titilayo Adegun who are Director and Deputy- Director respectively in the corporation have been redeployed from the Corporation to the government printing press over what might not be unconnected with the crisis.

Kudehinbu's panel was set up by the governing board of OSRC on March 25, after the congress of NUJ and RATTAWU in the Corporation.

The workers had called the attention of the state government to matters affecting them and the organisation which was said to have been misinterpreted as a protest against the DG, Akeredolu-Ale.

It was learnt that the Panel demanded from workers various memoranda which they submitted and appeared to defend.

It was gathered that in the report, Panel's chairman, Kudehinbu was said to have urged the State government to act fast to save the Corporation from total collapse.

Apart from the two OSRC's Directors redeployed to Government Printing Press, two officials in the Lagos Commercial Department of the Corporation, Messers Sola Obanla and Fatai kareem were said to have been redeployed to Akure.
