Labour Party says APC attacks on Gbenga Daniel are vengeful tactics

The Labour Party, LP, in Ogun state on Friday reacted to a statement credited to the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Ogun state, Mr Sola Lawal, wherein he took on ex-governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel, over his comments at the Labour Party summit held at Ogun Waterside, last weekend.

Mobolaji Odunuga, Media Aide to Ogun LP Chairman in a statement told DailyPost that the party's leader, Daniel, was not moved by the ongoing trial by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, which he alleged was orchestrated by the APC-led government.

"Otunba Gbenga Daniel is at peace in his mind having contributed in no small measure to the growth and development of Ogun state and willing to do more. He sees the charges against him as a phantom instigated by the Governor of Ogun state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and we believe that God will see him through," Odunuga said.

He added that, "It is amazing that a party which is a bunch of vagabond, whose trademark is hostile criticisms like All Progressive Congress (APC) can condemn a highly respected personality like Daniel for raising questions that are vital to the growth and development of the state.

"APC antics is stylish, diversionary and a red herring. This is much so because it has no reasonable response to the myriad of questions in respect of its maladministration.

"Sola Lawal has forgotten that an accused person remains innocent until contrary is proved and he is convicted by the court of law. Therefore, except he and APC government are not respecters of fundamental human rights and except they believe in jungle justice which is a common phenomenon in Banana Republic, Mr. Lawal shouldn't have said a man who has not been convicted should be put behind bars. Thus is not the practice in civilized world."

The Aide said the fact that Otunba Gbenga Daniel is exposing the maladministration in Amosun's government made APC to vengefully discredit him. He reiterated that, OGD, being a man with lion's heart is further emboldened to advocate for good governance in Ogun state.

Continuing, Odunuga wondered why the APC has been unable to provide answers to the questions raised by Daniel, which bother on grossly inflated road projects, maladministration and lack of vision on the part of Amosun-led administration.

According to him, contrary to the claim that Senator Ibikunle Amosun has been adjudged as the best in recent times in the annals of governance in the state, it is crystal clear that protests and industrial actions have been the order of the day in Ogun state.

Listing some of the incumbent's failures, Odunuga recalled that "Students under the umbrella body of National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) recently protested at the State Secretariat, Abeokuta. A situation which led to the appointment of one Mr Clement Adeyemi as Special Adviser to the Governor on Student Affairs."

"Staffers of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu Ijebu and other institutions recently protested non-payment of salaries and other allowances; Secondary Schools management have not received running cost in the last three years; Councillors in the state are being owed furniture allowance in the last two years; some of the governor's aides have resigned over his style of leadership; Civil Servants have rejected his government in totality, an action they displayed by writing 'AMG' (Amosun Must Go) on the wall of the State Secretariat, Abeokuta."

The statement concluded by imploring the people of Ogun not to allow the APC government deceive them to re-elect it in 2015, assuring that Labour Party was prepared to make life better for all if elected.
