We’ve reduced pipeline vandalism in Ondo – NSCDC

The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it has reduced to its barest minimum, incidences of pipeline vandalism and attendant oil spill and pollution in Ondo state.

The command said it achieved this through careful deployment of its men and an effective information gathering system.

The State Commandant, Waheed Popoola disclosed this in an interview with The Hope Newspaper in Akure.

He said his men, who are often exposed to dangers in the course of their duties, were able to maintain the feat through effective feedback and prompt response to calls and tip-off.

Popoola also noted that the NSCDC has the constitutional power to arrest, investigate and prosecute criminals, saying "members of the public can report anyone of a shady character in their vicinity to the NSCDC and we will respond appropriately.

"We have handled cases like robbery, rape, arson and theft in addition to ensuring that pipelines in the state are kept safe.

"You know our country depends on oil, therefore ensuring an uninterrupted flow of oil cannot be over-emphasised," Popoola said.

The Commandant also urged the public to take security of lives and property as part of their civic duties as "security is a job for all".
