Tertiary institution students under the umbrella of the National
Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) have given the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo state an ultimatum of
Seven days to declare the winner of the Ilaje/Ese Odo Federal House of
Representatives bye election.

At a peaceful protest held at the Democracy Park in Akure, the capital
of Ondo state yesterday, the students expressed displeasure towards
the refusal of INEC to declare a winner for the election.

They were armed with placards bearing inscriptions of "Attahiru Jega
is unfit to conduct 2015 election; Don't keep us in Darkness because
we are tired of darkness; INEC has disappointed Nigerians; Declare the
Winner of this election immediately; Ondo REC has failed us; among
others.

The protesting students who were from the three tertiary institutions
in state said they have lack confidence in the electoral system of the
state just as the 2015 general election is near the corner.

The aggrieved also alleged that the Minister of State for Defence, Mr.
Musiliu Obanikoro of mobilizing Military personnel to intimidate
electorate during the election.

Speaking on behalf of the students, the National Association of
Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone D coordinator, Comrade Sunday Asefon
disclosed that the students were protesting to against INEC and to
show their refusal over the conduct of the commission ahead of the
general elections.

Asefon said the students across the south west of the country would
not cease the opportunity of mobilizing a mass protest against the
commission if it didn't go into the drawing board to re-orientate its
staff in the conduct of elections.

He revealed that the bye election conducted in ilaje/ese odo last week
Saturday suppose to be a prelude for elections ahead in the country
but was marred with irregularities.

The zone D coordinator added that the Association would continue to
ask for the right thing so that the country can attain its pride in
the committees of all nations stressing that injustice has for long
pervaded the country.

In his contribution, the National Financial secretary of NANS, Comrade
Timileyin Ayenuro said the students were not happy with the conduct of
the election despite massive turn out of voters for the election.

Ayenuro posited that it was surprising that the electoral commission
in the state would come out and declare the election 'inconclusive' on
the pretence that election did not hold in a ward of Arogbo in Ese odo
local government area.

He said the Commission should not use the chances of Arogbo people
who he alleged did not come out to vote for the delay on the
declaration of the winner of the election.

The students also expressed disappointment at the Federal government
for not really exposing the sponsors of the Boko Haram insurgents who
which has turned into a terror organization in the country.

They said the perennial killings of innocent Nigerians in the country
is now worrisome and calls for the attention of foreign assistance
urging the presidency to actively do something about the situation.

Sighting the killings in the Nyanya area of Abuja on Monday where over
hundred people were killed in a bomb blast that rocked a motor park,
the students called for a probe into the killings and demand immediate
justice for the perpetrators'.

They also prayed for the family of the deceased who lost their lives
to the incidence.
