A group, Ondo Civil Servants Anti- Fraud Crusaders(OCSAFC) at the weekend urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigeria Police Special Fraud Unit (NPSFU) to expedite action in probing the N65m fraud allegedly perpetrated by five civil servants in collaboration with some banks officials.

The group, in a fresh petition to the two anti graft agencies signed by its Chairman, Sola Ajayi and Secretary, Mike Adaramola said it was imperative for the two bodies to investigate the fraud as the perpetrators of the said fraud are aligning with prominent politicians to sweep the matter under the carpet

According to the group, by the time anti-graft officials commence investigation on the fraud, they would uncover more financial scam being perpetrated by the same workers.

It noted that the N65M fraud was one of the series of fraud committed by the affected workers.

The OCSAFC lamented that the affected officers were able to manoeuvre their ways out in the initial investigations carried out in the state by the two security agencies.

Although, the group hailed the state Civil Service Commission on the manner it handled the matter which according to them showed clearly that the Commission was not encouraging indiscipline, but called it to hand over the erring officers to the EFCC.

It said "The EFCC will beam its searchlights on all areas where the civil servants used to hide and carry out fraudulent acts in government ministries, agencies and parastatals .Many other frauds that had been perpetrated in the past would be uncovered and any public officer caught will face the consequence as deterrent to others"

The group condemned the incessant cases of fraud in some ministries in the state, urging the Civil Service Commission to employ the service of anti graft bodies to organise a seminar and workshop on fraud prevention and control.

It stressed that the seminar would go a along way to check those desperate civil servants in alliance with some banks officials who perpetrate frauds with impunity in the state

The OSCAFC observed that the N65M fraud which involved the five staff of Ministry of Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs and the Board of internal revenue with some banks workers in the state had dented the image of the state workers, saying the development has become a public knowledge.

"Therefore, only the intervention of the anti-graft agencies who will investigate the fraud and bring the culprits to book can clear the name of the committed civil servants.

" So we are urging you to wade into the matter before they sweep it under the carpet and we are ready to assist your operatives with necessary documents which will facilitate proper investigation of the alleged fraud" OCSAFC said.
