Five killed, Several injured in Ikare Truck Accident

Five persons have been killed by a heavy duty truck loaded with granites at Ikare Akoko, Akoko North West Area of Ondo State.

Eye witnesses told Journalists that the accident occurred when the truck loaded with granites lost control after his brake failed on the 'Oke Alabojuto hill' in Ikare.

The truck was said to have rammed into a Mini Suzuki bus known as 'Agolo' before crashing into the popular Abiola Shopping Complex of the Market at Ikare killing no fewer than five people on the spot and living several others injured.

The scene of the accident is a meter away from the palace of the Olukare of Ikare Akoko land.

Properties worth millions of naira which are mostly textiles materials were destroyed by the accident.

It was learnt that three persons who were badly injured as a result of the accident were rushed to the state specialist hospital in Ikare while another two are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owo.

The State Commissioner for Police, Issac Eke and the Commissioner for Works, Engr Gboye Adegbenro who were on an oversight function to the area were said to have visited the scene and sympathized with the people of Ikare over the tragic incident.

Speaking at the scene, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Gboye Adegbenro said the state government sympathized with the people of Ikare Akoko and revealed that government has being pleading with the people to move their trade to Caring heart Market built by the state government.

He stressed that this would also avoid multiple and repeated accident which always occurred at the road.
