#IYD2016: Ondo Youth Ministry Celebrates International Youth Day

As the world celebrates 2016 International Youth Day (IYD), the Ondo state Ministry for Youth and Sports has joined in this year's edition of the celebration.

The event, which kicked off on Thursday, 11th of August with youth tour to different empowerment centres also called agro-business cities in the state and the Medical Village in Ondo, ended on Friday, 12th of August with a youth awareness walk with the Ondo state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, ably represented by his deputy Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo.

The theme for this year's event "The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production."

Delivering his welcome address, the state Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Hon. Dayo Awude said the theme was informed by the consuming nature of Nigeria and its present economy challenges, he urged the youth to be engaged in meaningful and productive activities capable of spurring the nation's economic growth.

"let us all do what we can to make things work for us in Nigeria and in Ondo state, we must go back to the land because the land has never failed us, our land is fruitful and fertile." Awude said.

He hinted that, the Ondo state government has made a revolution in the Agriculture sector through Wealth Creation Agency (WECA). he said "indeed we can make a statement with agric revolution," adding that the only way Nigeria can get out of Poverty is to live a productive life.
